A
Torah
is
precious,
delicate
and
the
center
of
our
Jewish
identity;
it
therefore
deserves
and
requires
expert handling and ongoing care.
Before
actual
restoration
can
proceed
a
full
evaluation
of
the
scroll
should
take
place
and
a
detailed
estimate is prepared prior to beginning repairs. See more in
Torah Evaluations
.
We
-
the
Sofrim
of
,
perform
all
actual
repairs
on
Sefer
Torahs
personally,
from
small
corrections
to
full
restorations.
Whether
on
Site
or
at
our
workshop,
we
are
experienced,
trained
and
very
meticulous
in
our restoration work.
All
Torah
repair
work
is
invoiced
according
to
each
scroll's
individual
evaluated
quote,
which
is
an
estimate
of
how
much
time
it
should
take
to
complete.
Restoration
time
depends
on
the
amount
of
damage
and
may
take
anywhere
from
a
few
hours
to
a
few
days
or
longer.
At
the
end
of
our
restoration, a written guarantee is provided on all work completed.
When
cleaning
the
parchment
before
proceeding
to
fix
the
scroll
or
repairing
broken
and
crumbling
letters,
we
usually
remove
all
the
old
ink
before
rewriting
letters
with
new
ink.
Often
we
will
go
over
the
scroll
a
number
of
times
to
ensure
the
repair
work
is
holding
up
and
nothing
has
been
overlooked.
The
last stage of repairs is attending to the external condition of the scroll.
always
warranties
its
work
for
problems
revealed
at
the
time
of
service.
While
we
guarantee
our
work,
only
if
a
scroll
is
regularly
rolled
and
maintained
with
our
Torah
Maintenance
Plan
,
can
we
guarantee
that the scroll will remain Kosher.
When
script
accuracy
is
necessary,
we
offer
to
perform
a
computer
examination
of
the
scroll.
More
information is available in
Torah Computer Scan
.
Please
note:
The
status
of
a
Torah
does
not
change
from
Kosher
to
non-Kosher
overnight.
It
is
a
slow
process
that
progresses
over
time.
A
lack
of
usage
and
regular
maintenance
allows
the
deterioration
to spiral until the damage is viewed and becomes prohibitively expensive to repair.
As
such,
it
is
simple
to
understand
that
even
after
a
scroll
has
been
restored,
it
can
be,
that
there
remains
letters
which
have
already
begun
to
deteriorate
yet
have
not
been
revealed.
For
this
reason
regular
rolling
and
viewing
the
scroll
will
expose
these
unfolding
problems
and
then
they
can
be
fixed
in a timely fashion.
After
restoration
is
complete
and
the
scroll
returned,
we
urge
you
to
take
the
time
to
thoroughly
go
over
the
entire
scroll
to
ensure
the
repairs
are
to
your
satisfaction.
Please
ask
to
see
our
Holy
Rollers
Torah Care program for more information about ongoing Torah upkeep.
Furthermore;
now
that
your
Torah
is
Kosher,
NOW
IS
THE
TIME
to
enroll
it
in
the
money
saving
Torah
Maintenance
Plan
which
ensures
your
Torah
can
remains
Kosher
indefinitely,
avoiding
the
costly
repairs every few years.
While
it
is
possible
to
send
your
Torahs
to
our
workshop
for
restoration,
we
have
found
that
an
advantage
of
doing
on
site
restoration
is
a
tremendous
opportunity
for
interaction
with
the
community.
It’s
not
only
the
children’s
eyes
that
light
up
in
discovery
and
excitement,
it’s
everyone.
We
encourage
the
Rabbi
and/or
members
of
the
Ritual
Committee
to
observe
the
examination
and
restoration
process.
This
facilitates
learning
about
the
present
problems,
the
probable
causes,
and
how
to
maintain
them
in
the
future.
Education
and
learning
opportunities
should
follow
alongside
our
visits,
since they create the bonds that last between the people of the book and the book.
If
you
have
any
questions
concerning
our
restoration
methods
and
techniques,
or
should
you
have
any specific requests, please do not hesitate to ask.
We
look
forward
to
getting
better
acquainted
with
your
Torah
and
always
remember:
A
Torah
regularly
used is a healthy Torah!
