Sofer On Site’s Suggested Guidelines Steps to secure a successful commissioning of a new Sefer Torah.1) Select the style script you like.2) Choose your Sofer script according to the comfort and ease to read.3) Involve the clergy and all others who regularly read from the Torah.4) Obtain a sample of one standard section (Yeriah) of the actual Parchment to be used for your Sefer Torah with your chosen Sofer’s script on this section. The points below should be stipulated and signed in a legal document:•The exact height of the new torah (standard size is 17.75”-19”)•The maximum weight of your new scroll. (a 17.75” Torah should not weigh more than 10 lbs)•The number of fill-in letters for your Torah Project and/or Siyum HaTorah•The Sefer Torah should be sent to you as each of the five books is completed.•When each book is received, it should come with the computer read-out for that book- meaning each book has been computer checked and corrected. •Payments should be approximately one-sixth up front and one sixth after receiving each book. •Confirm that the date the Torah will be completed is approximately one month before the Siyum Sefer Torah ceremony. •Know the name, address & phone number of the actual sofer who writes your Sefer Torah. Visit him at work in Israel or America. The more informed you are, the smoother your experience will be!
